The Afrikan Village Cultural Center of Cleveland was installed by Dr. Ray Hagins on March 14, 2009. There were over 500 brothers and sisters in attendance on that beautiful cold March afternoon. There were many vendors, representatives and members from other organizations, as well as many Afrikan Village members from Afrikan Village Cultural Centers from around the country. We started out as "The Conscious Group" study group, founded by Terry Sanders and George Lentour, in Feburary of 2007. As The Conscious Group, we met weekly, reading books such as, "Nile Valley Contributions to Civilization", by Anthony T. Browder, and "Black Labor White Wealth", by Dr. Claud Anderson. As our membership increased, so did our desire to become an official Afrikan Village. With the direct assistance from the leadership of our sister Village, The Afrikan Village of Youngstown, we established our necessary committees and ministries. Once we were ready, there was "no stopping us". We are proud to be an Afrikan Village, in fellowship with other Afrikan Village Cultural Centers around the country, with the St. Louis, MO Afrikan Village, under Dr. Ray Hagins, Chief Elder and spiritual leader, as our "headquarters".
